Max Grunhard is a tremendously gifted saxophonist from Australia who has been making waves in the London jazz scene since his arrival in the UK five years ago. The quintet is made up of some of the best young players working today, with a broad range of styles and experiences. Separately they have played with artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, Ed Motta, Groove Armada, the Quantic Soul Orchestra and Madonna!

 

Recorded in a single afternoon at the famous Vortex club in London's Stoke Newington, the first session for the quintet delves deep into modal jazz territory – reminiscent of Gary Bartz and Doug Carn at their best.
